Belley: For A Holiday to Remember
The serene town of Belley, France is in the southern border of the Ain department in the Rhone-Alps, north-west of Chambery. It served as the capital of the ancient province of Bugey, then became part of the Saint-Empire Romain Germanique in the 10th century. After a great fire razed down the town in the 1300s, Belley was rebuilt soon afterwards. Belley has a rich religious culture that’s still evident in the many religious structures found all over town.
Best Time to Visit
While Belley enjoys ideal weather from early May to mid-October, the busiest it gets for tourist arrivals is from May to July and accordingly rates for Belley hotels are more expensive during these months although these become cheaper when booked ahead. June is a specially popular month in the Belley area as the Party of the Bird (Fête de L’oiseau) in nearby Saint-Genis-Pouilly goes full swing.
