Carrollton: Hiking, RV Campgrounds and Getting Close to Nature
Initially known as Port William, Carrollton was founded in 1782 and was the county seat of Gallatin County. The region got its current name, Carrollton in 1868 and became the seat of the new county Carroll County during its split with the original and bigger Gallatin County. Carrollton, KY eventually became a bigger town during the split as it played a major role in the region’s river traffic. Carrollton is also known to be the largest tobacco markets in America and has provided a steady income to its economy since 1970. However, Carrollton was one of the severe devastated areas during the Ohio River flooding in 1937 and the site of the Carrollton Bus Disaster in 1988.
