Centre d'Histoire de la Resistance et de la Deportation, Lyon, France
The Center of the History of the Resistance and Deportation was inaugurated in 1992. It is located in what was then a French military health school in Lyon, France. The center was home to Germans in the spring of 1943. The museum holds the darkest period of France’s history including the genocide of Jewish people. The museum is free for visitors below 18 years old and disabled people and accompanying persons. There is an audio tour guide for non-French speakers for 1 euro.
A Lyon City Card is recommended to make the most out of the Lyon experience. It offers a full historical tour to different places including the Resistance and Deportation center. Around the area, the Office of Tourism can arrange a 24-stop tour that varies from going to the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Lyon Museum of Fine Arts. An interesting choice of hotel to stay in is at Grand Hotel Dieu. It was a hospital run by nuns until 2007 before it became a hotel. It features a church-like appearance that houses coffee shops, wine shops, and restaurants. Another best seller is the Hotel Le Royal Lyon which is approximately 1.1 kilometers away from Centre d'Histoire de la Resistance et de la Deportation. The same hotel is close to the banks of the Rhône River, which is around countless museums and cultural attractions. Affordable options for accommodation include Comfort Suites Rive Gauche Lyon Centre and Best Western Hotel De Verdun, which is still within 5 kilometers from the landmark.
