New Chitose Airport – CTS Sapporo
New Chitose Airport is serving both domestic and international flights. It is located near several notable cities. Aside from Sapporo, Japan, the airport is near Hokkaido. Based on passenger traffic and land area, this is the biggest airport in the region. Geographically, the airport with code CTS is adjacent to Chitose Air Base. This is a government facility that houses fighter jets and aircraft. Overall, this airport is the third busiest in Japan. The airport has served more than 8 million passengers yearly. The most popular flight coming from the airport is Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda route.
Best Time to Visit
The CTS-New Chitose Airport was inaugurated in 1991. This is to replace the old Chitose Airport. In 1994, this has become the first 24-hour airport in the country. However, services during the night are limited to only 6 flights because of the noise problem. Four of the flights are going to Tokyo while the other two are reserved for cargo. There is a second terminal being constructed that doubles the exciting capacity of the currently terminal. Ishiyama and Kitahiroshima are some cities being served by the airport.

Chitose city has a lot of accommodations and most of them are a few minutes drive from the airport. Air Terminal Hotel is 4 minutes walk from the airport station. The hotel is connected through the airport’s domestic terminal. Stay at the Hotel Grand Terrace Chitose, which is only 2.5 km from the airport and just a stone throw away from Aoba Park. Chitose Airport Hotel is only 6 minutes away from the airport station. The modest building is also near several shopping centers.
