Located 50 miles north of Birmingham and 55 miles south of Huntsville, Cullman is reported to have over 15,000 permanent residents according to the 2017 census. It was originally part of the Cherokee Nation before German refugee John Gottfried Cullman founded the town in 1873 by purchasing the property from the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company. In 2012, this city known as the "City of Character" made it to the list of Bloomberg Businessweek's 50 Best Places to Raise Your Kids based on the city's economic and educational factors, crime level, and the presence of first-class amenities like luxury shopping brands, deluxe hotels, and publicly owned Folsom Field Airport nearby.

Tourists are not likely to visit the city in December, although this is reported to be the least expensive month for tourism.
