Dallas Love Field Airport – DAL Dallas
Situated at the northwest of downtown Dallas, Dallas Love Field Airport is currently owned by the city and operated by the Dallas Department of Aviation. The airport used to be the main airport of Dallas, Texas prior to the construction of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974. Today, the airport serves both commercial and corporate airlines. The Virgin America Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Southwest Airlines are some of the few aircraft that travel to Dallas Love Field Airport with regular flight schedules.
Best Time to Visit
The US Army named Dallas Love Field Airport after Moss L. Love in 1917. The airport was established by the US government, as a training field for pilots during World War I. In 1927, the city of Dallas purchased the airport for civilian use. Renovations were done to the airport with paved runways and in 1939, Love Field Airport had a record of 21 airline departures every week. By 1974, a third terminal building was opened to accommodate the growing number of passengers that travels to and from Dallas, as well as its neighboring cities Grand Prairie, Heath, and Addison. Recently, the airport has served a total of 16 million passengers and is expected to increase the following years.
