Best Time to Visit
It is highly recommended to visit Donegal during the months of June through September, for the perfect weather. The busiest months are usually January, July, and August. People are least likely to visit in November. One of the most awaited events in town is Crana Fest, a two-day event dedicated to all things kayak. Paddlers from all over the world come to town every October for this festival. Another must-see event is Mary From Dungloe International Arts Festival, which happens from the last week of July until early August. It features art exhibits, cultural activities, funfair, street performances, walking tours, and many more. It concludes with the much-awaited crowning of Mary From Dungloe.
What to Do & Area Attractions
When in town, it is a must for tourists to visit Donegal Castle, which was the stronghold of the O’Donnell family, one of the most influential Gaelic clans in the country in the early days. In the 1990s, it was restored partially. Today, it is open to the public, allowing them to go back in time through the fascinating infrastructures surrounding the castle. Lough Eske or Lough Eask is also a must-visit. It offers recreational activities, such as fishing. Visitors may catch char, sea trout, and spring salmon.
