Dresden: The City of Baroque Architectures and Christmas Markets
Characterized by its pleasant location and favourable climate, Dresden, Germany is hailed as the “Florence of the Elbe”. It is known for its baroque style architectures and rich art forms. One of the things the city is known for is its annual tradition of holding Christmas Markets. To reach the city, book tickets going to Dresden International Airport (DRS), which is located 9km north of the city centre.

The city is most alive during the months of May to October. During these months, a series of music and art festivals take place; however, prices tend to go high during this season. Nevertheless, Dresden is an all year round tourist destination due to its moderate continental climate. It is also perfect for Christmas getaways because of its Christmas Markets usually open as early as the last week of November until the 24th of December.

Visit the city’s most prominent building, Frauenkirche, also known as Dresden’s Church of our Lady. It collapsed during the war but was rebuilt on 1994 to 2005. It is also where one of the Christmas Markets is held. Feel like a royalty and visit the Zwinger Palace. It has a late baroque architecture and is now a first class museum. Just north of Frauenkirche is the panoramic Bruhl’s Terrace. Climb a monumental staircase and walk along a path where you can see historic buildings like the Royal Art Academy and Albertum Museum.
