Darwin International Airport serves Darwin and the Northern Territory. It is located in Eaton, Northern Territory in Australia, just 8 kilometers from downtown Darwin. DRW traces its origins back to 1945 when the Department of Aviation made the existing airport in the area available for civilian use. This resulted in the closure of the Parap Airport. An expansion was started in 2008 and was estimated to have cost $60 million. Included in the expansion was an increase in the terminal floor space. The new terminal was opened in 2015. The busiest international rout for Darwin International Airport in 2018 was to Singapore and Indonesia.
