A city located in the Eastland County of Texas, Eastland is well-known for the legend of the "Old Rip". This horned lizard, commonly depicted as a toad was one of the items included in the time capsule memorabilia places in a cornerstone of a courthouse in Eastland, TX in 1897. After 31 years, this courthouse was torn down, with the live horned lizard still inside. The lizard went on a tour in several regions near the city and went as far as Washington D.C. to meet the president. The lizard eventually died of pneumonia in 1929 and was placed in a glass casket and can still be viewed in the current courthouse of Eastland.
