Grange Hotels was founded by brothers Harpal, Raj and Tony Matharu, collectively known as Matharu brothers in 1985 and is categorized under the boutique and upscale hotels category. The hotel brand currently owns and operates 12 luxury hotels in London and has a property located in Bracknell Windsor.
Although mostly private people, the Matharu brothers quietly built the Grange Hotels to the top and made it one of the largest privately-owned luxury hotels in London. Tony Matharu serves as the managing director of the brand while Raj holds the chairmanship position. The brand currently has two 5-star hotels under its bracket with the rest under the 4-star group. It’s first ever hotel, Grange City Hotel located in Southampton Row is a 307 bedroom and features a Greco-Roman swimming pool.
Located in key points in Central London, the Bloomsbury area, Covent Garden and the West End, the properties under the Grange Hotels brand includes a few Victorian and Georgian townhouses. The Grange Strathmore was once owned by the Earl of Strathmore, grandfather of the late Queen. In 2005, the Grange Hotels group made a huge step in the hospitality market by creating a woman-only wing in a newly-built, 7-story block with 68-female only bedrooms on the property.
