Gaborone, Exploring the Historic and Thriving Capital of Botswana
Most fondly referred to as Gabs, G-City, and Moshate, Gaborone, Botswana is the country’s capital and biggest city. It is home to more than 230,000 residents, making up around 10% of the country’s total population. The town lies amid the Oodi Hills and Kgale, more than nine miles from the South African border. Gaborone was named in honor of the Chief Gaborone of the Tlokwa tribe leading the nearby area. Being the capital city, there are numerous hotels, inns, and amenities found around the area. You can easily reach Gaborone through the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport located within the city itself.
Best Time to Visit
You’ll surely be in for a treat if you’re coming into the city during the fall season as Gaborone hosts two of the most looked forward to event of the year, the Maitisong Festival in March and Maun Festival in April. Both of the event features traditional music and dance, with Maun adding traditional poetry to the event. The temperature becomes particularly cold by this season and most of Gaborone, Botswana hotels are discounted due to the relatively slow tourism.

History enthusiasts will surely enjoy a trip to Gaborone as the city is home to two of the major museums in the country, the Gaborone Natural History Museum and the National Museum.
