Yamagata Airport – Yamagata GAJ
Yamagata Airport (GAJ) is a second-class airport located in Higashine in Yamagata, Japan. This public and military airport can be reached 14 miles from Yamagata Prefecture. During World War II, the Japanese Navy built the Kamiyama Training Airfield. It was also used by the U.S. military after the war followed by the Japanese Self-Defense Force. In 1964, the airport was transferred to civilian management and was named Jinmachi Airport, which eventually became a third-class regional airport. A year later, the name was changed to Yamagata Airport. The runway was extended with a new terminal building and was designated as Class-II.
