What to Do & Area Attractions
Guimar, Spain is perhaps most known for the Piramides de Guimar Archaeological Site, or the Pyramids of Guimar. These structures date back to the 19th century and were believed to represent an agricultural link between the Canaries and Egypt and ancient Mesoamerica. The pyramids also signify an ancient knowledge of astronomy, as they point to both sunset and sunrise on the summer and winter solstices. Another notable site is the Las Ventanas de Guimar Trail, or the “Thousand Windows of Guimar”, a steep hiking trail not for the faint of heart that follows a line of tunnels carved into the cliffside along the town’s mountains. Guimar hotels include Hotel Rural Finca Salamanca, a quaint lodging reminiscent of the European countryside with a pool and view of the mountains, and Hotel Rural Casona Santo Domingo, situated closer to the village but still providing a scenic view of Guimar.
