Hopkins: Belize’s Friendliest and Coziest Village
Known as a Garifuna village in the eastern section of the country, Hopkins, Belize is located along the coast of the district of Stann Creek and hosts only about a thousand residents. The villagers in the area primarily live off fishing, farming, and occasional tourism. Resorts and hotels dot the coastline of the village, too.
Best Time to Visit
You have not truly visited Hopkins if you didn’t attend the Mango Festival of the town. Because the city grows more than 20 varieties of mangoes, it is only right to hold a celebration for the famous tropical fruit. The mango fest is typically held in June as a way of starting the summer season. Expect a relatively low influx of tourists come this month. But this also means cheaper Hopkins, Belize hotels, too.
What to Do & Area Attractions
While at Hopkins, take advantage of the clear blue waters of Hopkins Beach, as you take in the serenity and beauty of the coastal surroundings. You can also enjoy the sunset at Hopkins Pier, which is around a five-minute walk from the beach. Nature enthusiasts will surely appreciate a trip to Andersons Lagoon, a quiet sanctuary located 18-minutes away from Hopkins Beach. As for accommodations, the Villa Margarita at Jaguar Reef is around a 9-minute walk from the lagoon and also provides airport transfers. Meanwhile, both Hopkins Bay Belize and Belize Dreams Resort are right in front of Hopkins Beach and offer full-service spa and outdoor pools.
