Independence is one of the many cities in Polk County located near the Willamette River. The city was founded in 1845 by the pioneers from Missouri. The area initially took the name "Original Town of Independence" and was later changed to "Old Town". It was later named after Independence, Missouri. It was originally a thriving shipping area for agricultural products and lumber, both via boat and rail. You can get to the region via the Corvallis Municipal Airport (CVO) located in Benton County.

Months from May to September are the best time to enjoy and have a holiday in Independence. Independence, OR hotels are also quite affordable during this time of the year. The River's Edge Summer Series offers free movies and features several fun shops and great restaurants on the park for locals and tourists to enjoy.

Check out the tours and the verdant grounds of the Bush House Museum to begin your adventure in Independence. It is one of the storied circa-era Victorian homes converted into a museum in the area. History, architecture and culture can be enjoyed in this area. For kid-friendly adventures, visit the Enchanted Forest Theme Park. This 20-acre park is owned and managed by the Tofte Family.
