Lezzeno: Land of Gastronomy, Winery, and Natural Beauty
Another one of the towns within the surrounding of Lake Como is Lezzeno, Italy. Made up of 17 villages nearby the coast and mountains’ slopes, it is truly an attractive town to visit. Lezzeno’s history goes way back as early as the 11th century and was believed to have been a coven for witches. It was also once a fortified town.
Best Time to Visit
Lezzeno, Italy, like the majority of the towns close to Lake Como is best visited during the warm months of May to August. These are months when there are high volumes of travelers coming into town so you might find Lezzeno hotels to be pricier. Come around September with the days shorter but at least you can avoid the hassle of many visitors. There are no festivals taking place within the town but you can cross over to neighboring ones to celebrate a few.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Church of Saints Quirico and Giulitta should be your first stop while in Lezzeno. It was built in the mid-1800s and has various art frescoes made by renowned painters. A 15-meter tall stone called the Devil’s Stone by many locals is the Calvarone Stone. It earned its local nickname due to the fact that residents have long been trying to plant a cross atop of the rock but somehow always end up getting struck by lightning. Do not forget to try Lezzeno’s local wine and Missoltini (a sun-dried and grilled, freshwater fish dish) while in town.
