Mechelen: A City of Artistic Madness
Sometimes spelled as Mechlin, the city of Mechelen, Belgium lies on the Dyle river. It’s strategic location of being in-between Antwerp and Brussels give it an advantage on enticing a lot of tourists to come for a visit. The city is home to a long list of history, art, tradition, and folklore. Mechelen is a mere 20-minute ride to Brussels International Airport (BRU).
Best Time to Visit
Mechelen, Belgium experiences moderate rainfall throughout the year, making it relatively cold most of the time. The middle of the year between June to August have slightly warmer days and thus, are the best time to visit the town. Keep in mind that these months are also when tourists are in large numbers and Mechelen hotels have sky-high rates. Though November of every year, the Festival Mechelen is held and you might not want to miss that.

St. Rumbold’s Cathedral and the Mechelen City Hall are nestled in the Grote Markt. Easily two of the main highlights of the city. They boast of their medieval and grand architecture. Take an art walk tour along the street of Mechelen Muurt Walk or admire the collection of paintings and sculptures at Museum of Modern Art. These are just two of the many art places you will find scattered all over the city.
