The city’s name is tribute to the Natchitoches tribe that lived in the region during its early settlements. The word “Nashitosh” from where the city’s and early settlers name, was derive had various meaning, but the most common was “Chinquapin Eaters”.

Summer is the liveliest time of the year in Natchitoches, Louisiana with plenty of visitors entering the city. September through November, during fall is the least visited time of the year. December would be a great time to go to see and experience the Christmas Festival Lights featured in the region.
