Norfolk Island Airport - NLK
In the middle of Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia on the Pacific Ocean lies Norfolk Island, home to the only airport on the island, the Norfolk Island Airport (NLK). Norfolk Island is an external territory of Australia, which strategic location makes it a prime transit and refueling point for aircraft traveling through Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
Best Time to Visit
The Norfolk Island Airport (NLK) was constructed in 1942 upon the request of the United States Army Air Forces that wished to use an aerodrome on Norfolk Island for its heavy bombers. The first runway was completed in the same year, followed by a second runway in 1943. It features a small passenger terminal building with 4 check-in counters in the processing area, several waiting areas, baggage claim, and offices for emigration control, customs control, and immigration control, as well as a cafe. The airport is equipped to serve general aircrafts up to the narrow-body Airbus A320. The airport serves Air New Zealand's two weekly flights from Brisbane and three weekly flights from Sydney using an Airbus A320.
