Oxford: Getting Away in the Sleepy Town South of Nebraska
Established way back in 1880, Oxford, Nebraska is a village covering less than one square mile of land. It is located in the counties of Harlan and Furnas and has a total population of 779 as of 2010. The community was established following the extension of the railroad to the then already settled area of Oxford. The village sits at an elevation of 633 meters above the mean sea level. There are very limited accommodations in and around Oxford, but you can easily reach some of the popular hotels in the area via some major roads like US-34, US-183, and US-136.

Oxford, Nebraska annually celebrates Oxford Turkey Days, a four-day event originating from the town’s primary export: big turkeys. This is held every June and features all sorts of parade, family-friendly activities, and carnivals. The weather is also particularly warm during this season as summer has just begun. This accounts for the tremendous increase of tourists come June, so expect expensive Oxford, NE hotels. On the other hand, you can easily find discounted room rates in the fall.
