Perledo: Unassuming village overlooking a majestic lake
Perledo may not be as popular as other Italian cities like Rome and Milan, but this village tucked in the Lecco province of Lombardy is certainly worth a visit. It sits on a hill overlooking Lake Como and is surrounded by lush sceneries. The best way to fly to Perledo is through the Lugano Airport, but tourists coming from Milan may travel via the Milan Malpensa Airport.
Best Time to Visit
Tourists will enjoy Perledo’s pleasant weather from June through September. The off-peak season typically kicks off in December, while the busiest month is in May when festivals are aplenty in nearby towns. Perledo can also be visited during the winter season for skiing.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of Perledo’s main attractions is the San Martino Church, which features an oval interior and a bell tower that dates back to the 11th century. Also a must-see is the Castello di Vezio, a stunning castle located between Perledo and Varenna. It was built in the 12th century and started welcoming tourists in 1999.
Because of its limited land area, Perledo offers fewer hotel accommodation options than its neighboring towns. Hotel Montecodeno in Varenna is a family-run property nestled a few walks away from the beach. Also in Varenna, Agriturismo Castello di Vezio enjoys the majestic view of Lake Como. It can accommodate large groups and solo travelers. Villa Torretta is a beach guesthouse with a rooftop terrace. Within minutes are areas for kayaking, mountain biking, canoeing and shopping.
