Rhinelander: The City that Loggers Built
Originally called the Pelican Rapids, Rhinelander, WI is the proud county seat of Oneida County, Wisconsin, United States. Home to just over 7,000 residents, Rhinelander was named after New Yorker Frederic W. Rhinelander who, at that time, was president of the Milwaukee, Lake Shore, and Western Railroad Company. The land on which the city was built was bought by the Brown family who had dreams of establishing a town in order to convince the railroad company to extend a station to Rhinelander to promote its lumbering business. After a decade of deals and compromises, the Brown family finally ceded half of the land in exchange for a railroad station to be built in Rhinelander. Today, the city boasts of topnotch amenities like international hotel chains, up-and-coming restaurants, as well as deluxe shops. The Eagle River/Union Airport located a few miles from the city caters to Rhinelander's aviation needs.
