Sete: Free and Easy Holiday Destination
Sète, France is an unpretentious yet gorgeous port city and seaside resort in the southeast region of Occitanie. Built in the 1660s, it is still a busy maritime site that has plenty of waterways that are ideal for leisurely walks or cruises. Sète used to be called Cette until 1928 and takes pride in being the hometown of revered French artists, poets and musicians. The Béziers Cap d'Agde Airport (BZR) located east-southeast of Béziers is nearby.
Best Time to Visit
April until October is considered the most ideal time to visit Sete. Not only is the weather at its best but the city is at its most beautiful during these months with July, August and February as the peak months. Naturally, prices for hotels and flights will be most expensive, though purchasing in advance will yield great discounts. If you’re in town during the Fête de la Saint Louis in August, be ready to witness a water jousting competition as well as expect the city to be crowded and Sete, FR hotels to be fully-booked.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Hit the Aresquiers Beach in Frontignan or the Espiguette Beach and have a lovely time. Then visit the Paul Valery Museum, a small museum that has a collection of fine arts in honor of one of Sete’s famous sons. Then hike to Mont St Clair for a panoramic view of the city.
