McNary Field – SLE Salem
McNary Fieldis situated southeast of Salem’s downtown. The airport is named after the U.S. Senator, Charles L. McNary. It has served more than fifteen thousand passengers in 2008. Oregon Department of Aviation is housed in the airport and the Oregon Army National Guard-AASF also uses the airport’s facilities. As of today, there is no public service transport offered in McNary Field. A group of businesspeople from Salem are currently working to restore the commercial air service at the airport.
Best Time to Visit
The airport of Salem has two asphalt paved runways and a small terminal building. There is also a restaurant that serves foods and drinks. After an expansion of the terminal building in 2010, new facilities had been added like a baggage area, ticket counters, and an enlarged waiting area. The extended facility is double the size of the old terminal building. Several cities surrounding SLE Saleminclude Beaverton, Milwaukie, and King City.
