Tenerife South Airport – TFS-Tenerife South
Tenerife South Airport is the main airport of the largest island in Canary, Spain. Located in Tenerife, Spain, is found 60 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and it is next to El Medano. It is formerly known as Reina Sofia Airport after Queen Sofia of Spain. TFS-Tenerife South Airport is the counterpart the Tenerife North Airport. The airport is serving 100 connecting flights from all over the region and nearby countries. It is busiest during Fridays and often times it pushes the terminal to its maximum capacity. In 2016, the airport handled over 9 million passengers and it is highest in the airport’s overall history.
Best Time to Visit
The now three-story airport was inaugurated in 1977. The building has undergone major renovation over the last few years. It is surrounded by several cities including Callao Salvaje and El Duque. Currently, the airport is serving flights from big airline companies in the region like Air Berlin, Easy Jet, and XL Airways. The ground floor is where the check-in desks are found. Within the city’s vicinity, there are restaurants and shops to keep travelers busy.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Nearby airport hotels are accessible via bus links that travel all over the town. The Casa Rural Tamaide has an ocean view room and mid-range pricing. The Vincci Tenerife Golf is a cliffside accommodation and a bit expensive. Las Adelfa 2 is only a 15-minute drive from the airport and near the sea.
Aside from Santa Cruz de Tenerife North Airport (TFN), the La Gomera Airport (GMZ) is nearby and found in the city of Playa.
