The best time to visit Vila Franca do Campo is during the months of May through September. The busiest months are usually January, February, and October. Tourists are least likely to visit in November. One of the most awaited events in town is Sao Joao da Vila, which is held every June to honor St. John the Apostle. Dating back to the 14th century, it was originally a pagan ritual celebrating a bountiful harvest. At the time, locals worshipped the Sun God. Eventually, it became a Catholic festival featuring dances, musical performances, sporting events, theatrical acts, among others. Another famous event in the area is Red Bull Cliff Diving, which is also held every June. Competitors dive from a free-standing rock that is 27-meter high. People may watch from anchored boats.

Tourists should see Lighthouse of Ponta Garca when in town. Located along cliffs of Ponta Garca, it was constructed in the 20th century. It has a circular tower and rectangular communications block. The keepers’ residence, a simple building, features facades decorated with cornerstones. Another interesting site to visit is Church of Sao Miguel Arcanjo, a 15th-century church.
