Yonago Airport – YGJ Yonago
Yonago Airport (YGJ) is also referred to as Miho Airbase. YGJ is a military and public airport used by the Japan Air Defense Force (JASDF). This airbase is located 6.8 miles from Yonago, Tottori, Japan and shares its runway with civilian operations. Originally built as an airfield for the Imperial Japanese Army Force, YGJ was eventually taken over by the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF).
Best Time to Visit
The civilian passenger terminal was constructed in 1056 and began scheduled flights to Osaka in 1958. Several years later, the air service added a route to Tokyo. At some point, YGJ-Yonago also operated flights to Osaka and Hiroshima, which were usually opened in time for the winter months for tourists. In 2015, the first British Royal Air Force landed in the airport, which marked the first time an RAF aircraft has landed at a JASDF base. In 1978, YGJ served as an air station for the Japanese Coast Guard. Apart from Yonago, YGJ also attends to the residents of Daikon Island and Matsue.
