Alexandria International Airport is also known as El Nouza Airport is classified as an international airport situated in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. The airport with code ALY is found 7km from downtown. It served over a million passengers yearly. In 2011, the airport was closed for renovations. Everything was transferred to a nearby airport. However, the airport didn’t reopen in the planned date of opening. Alexandria is one of the largest cities in Egypt. It is also considered as a popular tourist destination in the region.

The future of the airport is in limbo after the opening of Borg El Arab Airport. In 2011, the government has laid out the plan to renovate the facility as an added gateway to Alexandria and Nile Delta. The project costs around $120 million. It includes extending the runway and constructing the new terminal. Up to today, the airport is still closed. The defunct airport is surrounded by cities of Borg el Arab and Sidi Krir.
