Best Time to Visit
The AOJ-Aomori Airport was placed between mountains within a valley situated 200 meters above sea level. Due to its location, operations are affected during bad weather conditions. Since its operation on 1964, Aomori Airport (AOJ) was stuck with its single 1200 meter long runway until it’s expansion to 1400 meter long by 45 meter wide from 1971 up to 1974. The Aomori Airport terminal was also expanded 1978. Because of the limitations due to its location, a new airport was planned and built on its current position in the southwest of the downtown Aomori, Japan. With its single 2000 meter by 60 meter runway, this airport opened its facilities in 1987. It opens its doors internationally after the terminals were remodeled ND certified to cater international flights. The airport has bus service scheduled to serve passengers to central Aomori and Hirosaki.
