Astoria: Landmark Trolleys, Observation Decks and Murals
Named after John Jacob Astor, an investor that built the American Fur Company and founded Fort Astoria on its current site, Astoria is an artistically inclined city. Astoria, OR is also the oldest settlement located west of the Rocky Mountains and the oldest city in the whole of Oregon. During its earlier years as a city, the region was served by the deepwater Port of Astoria. The city is home to the Dark Arts Festival, another popular yearly event in the region that features music, dance, arts and unique crafts such as glassblowing, blacksmithing and dark craft brews.

Summer is a good time of the year in Astoria, Oregon, but occasional rain showers and heavy fog in the region during this season may disrupt your fun holiday. The off season months of October to May are rather more ideal with the lack of crowds and rains and to be able to take advantage of the heavily discounted hotel rates available in the region.

Views of the water and marine life can be enjoyed in several points in the city. You can head to the Astoria Riverfront Trolley and the Fort to Sea Trail. Nature trek and hiking trails can be accessed at the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel, a 5-star hotel located above the Columbia River and will situate you near the popular Astoria Columns. The Hotel Elliott is a stunning hotel near the Astoria Bridge and would give you access to several tourist points in the region as well.
