Auburn University Regional Airport – AUO Auburn
Auburn University Regional Airport (AUO) is a public airport located 2.5 miles from Auburn, Alabama and was known as Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport. AUO is situated in Lee County and does not offer commercial services from Auburn.
This airport is owned by Auburn University and in 2009, the university’s Board of Trustees voted to change the name from Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport to Auburn University Regional Airport. The airport’s facilities are continuously improved to serve the passengers better including the people flying in to watch the football games.
Best Time to Visit
AUO was built in 1930 to serve the town of Auburn and its surrounding cities including Columbus. In its early days, AUO was just a grass field with a single airplane. Fast forward, AUO Airport now services 55 aircrafts and is the base of Auburn University’s Department of Aviation.
Over the years, improvements were done to the airport including an extension of the runway and a new building to make the facilities more modern. In September 2010, a new airport terminal was opened.
