Bartow: In-Between Rocky Mountains
Bartow, West Virginia is a sleepy town with more or less 150 inhabitants. It is situated in Pocahontas County and is just a few minutes from Durbin, a fellow census-designated place. It has a similar name as that of another town in Georgia. In fact, both of the town had gotten their name in honor of Col. Bartow who died during the Battle of First Manassas. Speaking of battles, the Battle of Greenbrier River took place in Bartow during 1861.
Best Time to Visit
Occasional light to moderate rain showers are experienced all throughout the year over at Bartow, West Virginia. It is ideal to come around summer, in the middle of the year, when it is the warmest in town. However, the summer months between June and August tend to be the busiest and most crowded for the town. Bartow WV hotels are more expensive as well. Every year, the local residents gather together to celebrate Camp Barefoot Festival any time during summer.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Snowshoe Mountain Resort is just less than an hour from Bartow’s center. Even though the mountain resort is more popular during winter for skiing and other snow-related activities, you will also find hiking trails which are perfect for summer. A little further away, about an hour and a half or less are the Falls of Hills Creek and Droop Mountain Battlefield which are both state parks where you can relax while being one with nature. Nearby the Snowshoe Mountain are the Silver Creek Lodge and the Expedition Station, two of the most recommended hotels close to Bartow. Another excellent hotel on a mountainous location is the Cranberry Mountain Lodge in Hillsboro, WV.
