Berat: A Multicultural Heritage Site
Berat, Albania is the ninth biggest city in the country in terms of population. In 2008, it was officially designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The unique architecture of the city has been influenced by many civilizations through the centuries. As such, it is no wonder why it is one of the main cultural centers in Albania.

It is ideal to visit Berat during the months of April through July, with its Mediterranean climate. The busiest months are May, June, and August. Tourists are least likely to visit in November. Every July, Multicultural Festival is held. It has been providing a platform for everyone to celebrate art in different forms since 2014.

Berat Castle or Citadel of Berat is a must-see attraction. A fortress that overlooks the entire city, it dates back to as early as the 13th century. There are a lot of Byzantine churches surrounding it. Most of these have already been destroyed through the years. The fortress itself has already been damaged significantly over the centuries. Nonetheless, the ruins of the castle remain to be an interesting historical sight to see. Tourists should also see St. Mary of Blachernae Church, one of the city’s most important monuments in terms of architecture and history. It was named after the Church of St. Mary Blachernae.
