The Brest Bretagne Airport was also known as Brest Guipavas Airport. This is due to its proximity to the province of Guipavas. The airport is the traveler’s gateway to the Brittany region found in France. BES-Brest Bretagne Airport began as airship hangars in the early 1900s for the war. This was built by the American Navy. After the second world war ended, the airport was abandoned. In the 1930s, the government needs a local airport in the area and the Brest Chamber of Commerce invested in the small airport. The first flights of the airport were mainly to transport goods to England and other parts of the United Kingdom. The first commercial flight took off from the airport in 1961.
