Gautam Buddha Airport – BWA Airport
Gautam Buddha Airport is a public airport located in Siddharthanagar, Nepal and also serves the same. It is also known as Bhairahawa Airport or BWA Airport. The airport is owned by the government of Nepal. It is currently undergoing renovations to be completed by this year with operations commencing by early 2020. After the renovations are complete, the airport is set to becoming the second international airport of Nepal.
Best Time to Visit
The airport first opened in the year 1958 and has since been under the operation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The year 1985 was a grim time for the airport as it was one of the targets during the Nepal Bombings. However, in 2015 the airport began constructions to turn the current airport to an international capacity airport. Currently, the airport occupies land that is 358 feet above sea level. There is only one runway with an asphalt surface and measures 4,954 feet long. Several airlines serve the airport with destinations to Kathmandu and Pokhara. These airlines include Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, and Yeti Airlines to name just a few. Nearby areas that also use the airport aside from Bhairahawa include Lumbini and Tansen.
