Calvi: Exploring the Coastal Town South of France
Located on Corsica Island, Calvi, France is a commune under the department of Haute-Corse. It serves as the seat of the Canton of Calvi and as the capital of Calvi Arrondissement. It was believed that Christopher Columbus was a native of Calvi, which was under the Genoese Empire during that time. This has not been proven true, though, and remains as a legend. Calvi’s economy is primarily based on tourism, so expect numerous resorts and hotel accommodations dotting the city.
Best Time to Visit
While the fall season is considered as the slowest season for tourism in Calvi, the Festival du Vent, held between October and November, still ranks among the major festivities in the city. The event, which translates to Festival of the Wind, is actually an arts fest featuring all kinds of music concerts, art exhibits, and sports involving the wind, such as sailing and paragliding. Summer is seen as the busiest season for a visit to the town. That said, during this time, most of Calvi, France hotels are booked.
