Qimei Airport – CMJ

The Qimei Airport, which is operated by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, is a public airport located on the island of Penghu County. It serves the city of Qimei, Taiwan, and goes by the IATA airport code of CMJ. Qimei Airport is also referred to as Chi Mei Airport.

Best Time to Visit

In 1997, the government of Penghu County approved the construction of an airport on the island to eventually increase the traffic to the county. Its single concrete runway, which runs to more than 800 meters, was redone in 1995. The Civil Aeronautics Administration now handles the operation of the airport since May 1996. There is currently a single airline serving the airport, Daily Air, which connects to the international airport at Kaohsiung. Although Qimei is the smallest rural township in the county, it is home to various tourist attractions, including the Double-Heart of Stacked Stones, the decades-old Qimei Lighthouse, and so-called Little Taiwan.

What to Do & Area Attractions

There are a handful of accommodations available on the island of Qimei, but the closest ones to the airport are the Cheng Village B&B and Dermi Sea View Homestay, both of which are only a five-minute drive from CMJ.

Two of the other airports located on Penghu Islands are the Wang-an Airport, a domestic airport handling over 2,500 passengers yearly, and the Penghu Airport, formerly called as Magong Airport, which serves the town of Huxi and is considered the fifth busiest airport in the country, in terms of passenger traffic.
