Commerce: Bois d’Arc Capital of Texas
Commerce, TX is the second biggest city in Hunt County in terms of population as of 2018. It came into existence when two (2) merchants, Josiah Jackson and William Jernigan formed a trading post and mercantile store, the area of which is now the downtown. It was established as a town in 1872 and incorporated in 1885. The city is known as the Bois d’Arc Capital of Texas because it is located in the geographic center of the bois d’arc tree’s indigenous range. The nearest airport to the city is PRX-Cox Field Airport.

The best time to visit Commerce is during the months of March through May and September through November, given its humid subtropical climate. Tourists usually flock during the months of June, July, and May. People are least likely to visit in October. Bois d’Arc Bash, which happens every September, is one of the most awaited events in the city. It is intended to celebrate the bois d’arc trees that played an important role in the frontier days. During the event, people celebrate with arts and crafts, car and truck show, entertainment, food, pageant, parade, and wine. There is also a 5K run and a game area for kids.
