General Motors Centre
The General Motors Centre (GMC) is a multi-purpose arena in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Its former tenants were the Canadian Lacross League’s Durham Turf Dogs, and it is now the home of the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals. It also houses the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame. Since opening in 2006, the centre has regularly been chosen to host various concerts and special events due to its flexible seating capacity. On its 10th year of operation, local developer Tribute acquired its naming rights, and it has since then been known as Tribute Communities Centre.
Concert goers and hockey game viewers from out of town can stay in low-cost hotels that are conveniently located within range of the centre. For those who want to explore the area the Comfort Inn Oshawa would be the best choice, since it is close to a GO Transit station, a movie theatre plaza, the Oshawa Centre, and several restaurants. For those travelling with their relatives, the Travelodge Oshawa Whitby offers a more family-friendly environment that boasts of kitchenette-equipped rooms and allows pets on the premises. For tourists who want a change of scenery but wish to stay within the city, the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens is just five minutes away from the arena, and features uniquely designed flower gardens. For tourists who are up for a little more adventure, they can spend a little over 15 minutes driving up to the nearby city of Bowmansville to visit the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, an exhibition and convention centre where they can participate in regularly organized trade fairs.
