Gorontalo, Indonesia is a quaint province located on the island of Sulawesi, one of Greater Sundai Islands in the region. It was once a part of the North Sulawesi province up until it was inaugurated as s province in December 2000. The region serves as the main gateway to the Gorontalo City, the busiest tourist destination in the region. There are many stories behind the origin of the name of the region. Gorontalo was derived from the word "Hulontalangi" also known as the "Valley of the Noble", "Inundated Land” as well as "Flooded Land". It is served by the Jalaluddin Airport (GTO), formerly known as Tolotio Airport.
Best Time to Visit
If you prefer the sun and the outdoors, November and December would be the months to avoid when visiting the province. However, Gorontalo, Indonesia hotels are very much affordable during this time of the year. One of the most festive events featured in the region is the Lake Limboto Charm Festival celebrating during August.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the most iconic landmarks and destination to see in the province is the State University of Gorontalo. It was originally established as a junior college during its launch in September 1963 before it became a state university. The Gorontalo Harbor is a great place to see in the area to take souvenir photos, enjoy the ocean view and check out the neighborhood. Several restaurants and small shops are also featured around the area.
