Hamilton: The City that Continually Grows
Hamilton, AL stands on land that was previously used by the Chickasaw Indians as their hunting grounds. Originally called “Toll Gate”, the name was eventually changed in honor of Captain Albert James Hamilton who was a resident of the city. Today, it’s a sleepily quiet town where people can go if they want to sit back and de-stress.

Hamilton, Alabama’s weather vary from one end of the scale to another. As a tourist spot, the city welcomes a lot of tourists from July to October. This is when the skies are clear and the weather is forgiving – allowing tourists to spend most of their days outdoors. Of course, you can visit a little early during the first weekend of March for the Jerry Brown Arts Festival. There’s also a large traffic of people during the last Saturday of October because of the Buttahatchee River Fall Fest with handmade arts and crafts on sale. Hamilton, AL hotels are at their lowest after October.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Quiet and fairly secluded, attractions in Hamilton, Alabama are not as extensive as other cities. However, it is the site of several luxurious hotels such as the Days Inn by Wyndham Hamilton and the Key West Inn Hamilton. Stellar locations worth a visit include the First Baptist Church and several pottery and studio galleries in the area. It’s also the site of excellent restaurants offering authentic local cuisines served by interestingly welcoming residents. Festivals, cruises, and pageants are also celebrated in the city.
