Kalibo: Colorful, Loud and Proud
Kalibo, Philippines is a popular tourist destination in Asia, priding itself as the home of the Ati-Atihan, the “Mother of all Philippine Festivals.” Formerly called Minuro it Akean, Kalibo got its name from “sangka libo” which the Aklanon term for one thousand – said to be number of local aboriginal Ati who were present in the first Catholic Mass in the country. The capital of the province of Aklan, Kalibo is also known for piña cloth weaving, an enterprise that dates back to the 8th century.
Best Time to Visit
If you want to soak up the summer sun, book your Kalibo accommodations around months of February to May, but be ready for tourists heading for the nearby beaches.
