Khamai Reptile Centre, Hoedspruit, South Africa
Located roughly nine miles from Hoedspruit in South Africa, the Khamai Reptile Centre is an education and research facility found in an area with a high concentration of snakes. This has been an excellent home base for the center as it is not only thriving in snakes but also a pristine space of a vibrant natural heritage. The Khamai Reptile Centre accepts day tours and offers a trip around the reptiles’ habitat, all while educating visitors on interesting tidbits about the animals held in the facility. Apart from the snakes, there are also several other reptiles in the area, including Nile crocodile, cobras, scorpions, water lizards, and green mamba, some of which can be fed, touched, and photographed.
You will also encounter plenty of other species at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre in the town of Hoedspruit. This wildlife facility conserves and sustains threatened and vulnerable animals in the area, including cheetahs and poached rhinos. Another must-visit nature institute close to the town is the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. It stands at the base of the mountain range of North Eastern Lowveld Drakensberg and provides a shelter for injured animals for over 150 years now.
