Mae Sariang, Thailand is a small town in Mae Hong Son with a forested and mountainous surrounding. Its administration was formalized in 1900. Originally, it was known as “Mueang Yuam”.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit Mae Sariang is during the months of November through February, for the best weather. The busiest months are usually January, February, and July. Tourists are least likely to visit in May. Every February, Mae Hong Son celebrates the Tea Tasting Festival, as it is popular for its tea plantations. Aside from different tea variations, the event also features food, local performing arts groups, and treks. Meanwhile, every April, Songkran Festival is held throughout the country. During the event, young people douse one another with water. Other traditional features of the festival also include art and culture shows, Ms. Songkran beauty pageant, Shan musical performances, sporting events, among others.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the best tourist attractions in town is Wat Jong Sung Temple. It is a Burmese-Shan temple located next to another Burmese Shan temple, Wat Si Bunruang Temple. Having been around since 1896, it is well-known for its structure. Another famous destination nearby is Mor Paeng Waterfall, a three-tiered waterfall. It is free to visit anytime of the year. There is a quick walking trail from the parking space. The waterfall is surrounded by trees of all sizes, offering a peaceful and soothing atmosphere.
