Moissac: Preserved Heritage Amidst Tough Times
A commune located at the confluence of the rivers Garonne and Tarn, Moissac, France is well-known for its rich heritage preserved in Moissac Abbey. It was damaged heavily by a flood in 1930, but eventually rose as a thriving commune.
Best Time to Visit
Moissac has the best weather during the months of April through October. Peak tourist season is usually from May until July. Tourists are least likely to visit in December. Every last weekend of September, the French Cuisine Festival is held throughout the country. Since 2011, it has been a way of the locals to celebrate the best of French gastronomy. It aims to promote the finest French cuisine through different events, such as educational activities, meetings, tastings, tours, workshops, among others. Another famous event throughout the country is French National Day, which is held every July 14. Military ceremonies are held in various towns, as part of the celebration. There are also concerts and dances during the festivity.
What to Do & Area Attractions
As mentioned earlier, one of the best and most famous tourist attractions in the commune is Moissac Abbey, a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery back in the day. It was established by St. Didier during the 7th century. Since 1998, it has been a World Heritage Site. Another famous destination that tourists should see is Cacor Canal Bridge, through which people may navigate by the side channel. It was established in the early 19th century in Quercy stone and Toulouse bricks. You can also visit the St. Pierre Abbey.
