A city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Mulheim an der Ruhr, Germany is known as “City on the River”. It was chartered as a town in 1808. It is the first city in the Ruhr area that became free of coal mines completely in 1966.

Mülheim an der Ruhr has the perfect weather during the months of May through September. The busiest months are usually July, October, and November. Tourists are least likely to visit in February. Ruhr Seniors’ Fair, held every April, is one of the most popular events in the area. It promotes an active lifestyle among the elderly. People will get to learn more about old-age activities, health, and travel during the event. Another famous event in the area is the Dragon Boat Festival, which is held every September. Aside from the competitions, people also get to enjoy creative costumes and live music.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Schloss Beck is one of the must-visit attractions nearby. It was originally built as a maison de plaisance; and now it is an amusement park. Facilities include bumper cars, horse-drawn carriages, a roller coaster, swing boats, trampolines, among others. The Beck Castle is also nearby. Tourists should also see Duisburg Zoo, which has been around since 1934. Known for its dolphinarium, it is one of the biggest zoos in the country.
