Navia: A Rising Asturian Tourist Spot

The best time to visit Navia is during the months of May through November. Peak tourist season is usually during the months of January, August, and December. Tourists are least likely to visit in October. One of the most anticipated events nearby is Natural Cider Festival in Nava held every summer. It is considered as the most veteran cider festival in the province, dating back to the 1960s. One of the highlights of the festival is a cider pouring contest. Aside from celebrating all things cider, it also aims to promote Asturian culture and traditions. Another event to look forward to is Fiestas de San Mateo in Oviedo, which is held every third week of September. The nine-day celebration features live music, fireworks, and theater.

When in the province, tourists should see Naranjo de Bulnes. It is often referred to as “Picu Urriellu” by locals. The term is said to have been derived from “Los Urrieles”, which has been used to describe Macizo Central. While it is not the country’s highest peak, it is the best-known summit in local mountaineering. Another must-visit attraction nearby is Somiedo Natural Park, the stronghold of the famous Cantabrian brown bear.
