Oppede: A Cozy Elevated Town in Southern France
The city of Oppede, France, is one of the communes in the department of Vaucluse, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The town is actually composed of two villages, the Oppède-le-Vieux (which translates to “the old” in French) and Oppède-les-Poulivets (which means “nice view” in the Provençal dialect). Oppede covers a total land area of almost 10 square miles, with a population of 1,396 as of 2016. While the city is not a major tourist destination, there is already a wide array of small inns and B&Bs available within Oppede.
Best Time to Visit
The town of Oppede hosts several events and festivities throughout the year, most of which are held on the sunny days. In the summer, expect numerous vibrant concerts months between July and August. August is also when the city celebrates the feast day of St. Lawrence, which lasts for five days. If you’re coming in October, consider attending the town’s Harvest Festival, celebrating the start of fall. During the summer, the majority of Oppede, France hotels get pretty packed due to the influx of tourists, but come October, the tourist population tends to die down.

There are plenty of cozy accommodations found in the city of Oppede, some of which include Domaine Les Roullets, Le Petit Miracle, and Les Chenes B&B. The latter serves free continental breakfast to guests and offers access to their library and picnic area. The other two hotels feature outdoor pools, but only Domaine Les Roullets has a winery and in-hour breakfast option.
