Rome, Maine: A Beautiful Farming Town
Bordering the towns of Mount Vernon, Mercer, and New Sharon to the west, north, and northwest, respectively, Rome is a small town in the county of Kennebec, Maine. It is part of the resort area of Belgrade Lakes as well as the micropolitan area of New England and Town Area. Its earliest settlement dates back to 1780 and was originally part of the West Pond Plantation. By 1804, Rome, Maine was incorporated naming the town after Rome, Italy.
